Chatrooms=ability to be an adult
Chat rooms are one of the easiest ways for a young child to talk to different people. They can enter a chat room that claims to have similar interest, state their age, location, gender, and have a conversation. They no longer have a face, a past, or essentially a true personality, they can be whom ever they want to be that day. Yes, we can talk about the other end of how a sexual predator can prey on children in this situation, but let's think about the benefit the child is trying to gain.
A 12-13 year old is now allowed to enter an "adult" conversation. They can pretend to be much more mature they they actually are. They can pretend to be much more experienced then they actually are. And they can turn on a side of their personality that they don't want anyone else to see, and where they might have otherwise been scrutinized.
In my opinion these elements are the reason why children like to enter chat rooms and give into these sexual predators.
